Do the rdeps build fine against the new version?
From the API changes, I expect yes. Is there any reasonable/automated
way how I can test all of its rdeps?

There's the ratt tool (bin:ratt) which helps rebuild rdeps, though I
haven't used it, my setup is quite ad hoc.
Thanks for the hint!

So, I set up ratt and schroot. Ratt identified 411(!) reverse rdeps that
I attempted to rebuild over night on my private laptop.

Most packages rebuilt correctly so far. There were some which FTBFS, but
I inspected the build logs manually and the build errors were never
related to the FLAC transition in any case.

However, this morning the computer hang up and became unresponsive, so I
had to do a hard reboot. I don't have exact numbers of how many packages
were rebuilt, but we are in the order of 250 for which these results
apply.

Do you want me to rebulid the other packages as well or do you take the
results so far as a proof that no disruptive changes are to be expected
from the FLAC transition?

Cheers,

- Fabian

The interesting packages for this transition are those listed at
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-flac.html. Do any of
those FTBFS with the new flac version?

Cheers

Can you upload them to people.debian.org? I'd like to inspect a couple
of them, in particular one for a key package (qtwebengine). Other than
that, the results are promising, so I think we can start this soon.
Sure, please find them here:

Looking at the chromium and qtwebengine logs, I think there's a
permission issue in your sbuild setup (possibly with /dev/shm). If
you're able to fix that, then you could retry the failed packages and
see how far they go. They may succeed, or fail later due to an actual
issue (flac related or not).
It seems that both build failures are triggered by an attempt to run
python in the schroot.
In any case, given the good results so far, we can go ahead with this.
Does this mean I my upload 1.5.0+ds-2 to unstable now?

Bug #1098235 {Done: Fabian Greffrath <***@debian.org>} [release.debian.org] transition: flac
'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
all fixed versions will be cleared, and you may need to re-add them.
Bug reopened
No longer marked as fixed in versions flac/1.5.0+ds-2.
